Incidentally, if you're in York and you're affected negatively by the removal of the 10p tax band, why not turn the thumbscrews on one of the two Labour MPs in the area? You are likely represented by either Hugh Bayley (City of York) or John Grogan (Selby inc York Uni), and writing to them is easy.

(I only mention York in particular because I know it has Labour MPs)

I need to check my tax situation - it's a bit of a trial telling becaise I was away for most of last year, but I think I'm affected by it, as I'm on a low wage with no children and too young for tax credits; IIRC when the measure was announced the papers said people in my situation would be adversely affected. I have fond hopes of getting a grown-up job with decent pay in the next few months, but I should get around to writing to my Labour MP in the meantime!
